The Flower of Lily
(Fleur de Lis)

The Flower of Lily (Fleur de Lis) is the most instantly recognized symbol of New Orleans, and Louisiana.  While walking anywhere in the city you can see 100’s of Fleur de Lys prominently displayed throughout the architecture and landscape. The Fleur de lis is said to be a stylized lily with the three petals of the flower representing faith, wisdom and chivalry. Fleurs appeared on battle flags, crowns and shields of the House of Bourbon, from the Duchy of Orléans who became the King of France. So it is easy to see why the Fleur De Lis has become a symbol of New Orleans rich French heritage.
